Man, I’m at a loss for words. I know people say it all the time when musing over things that give them joy coming to an end, but I couldn’t have been sadder to hear the news that the epic saga of Supernatural was coming to a close. Having spent half of my life with the Winchester brothers, played by Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, as they faced all manner of supernatural creatures and saving the world multiple times over, it was a shock to hear the announcement that Season 15 of Supernatural would be the end of the fan-favorite TV show. Posted over on Twitter, you can hear Supernatural stars Ackles, Padalecki, and Misha Collins unveil the big news.
Few, if any, shows have run that long and Supernatural is the only sci-fi/genre show to sport such longevity. Even so, I think it’s always been in the back of fans’ minds that Supernatural would eventually have to end. Regardless, nobody was ready for it. Currently on it’s 14th season, the end feels much closer than folks would like.
Starting way back on September 13, 2005, Supernatural debuted on The CW before the network was called The CW and rather The WB. With the 15th season purported to be 20 episodes that means the series will have run a total of 327 episodes. With the Season 14 finale coming soon i.e. April 25, it might be time to start preparing your heartfelt goodbyes to the show about family and monsters that’s really more about family than monsters.
