Do you guys remember the Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends animated series from the ‘80s? I do! I didn’t watch it when it first came out, but I caught more than a number of episodes in the ‘90s thanks to many VHS tapes. Following right after the 1981 Spider-Man animated series, Amazing Friends was a bit more light-hearted and featured Spider-Man, Firestar, and Iceman, all living under the same roof in Aunt May’s house as roommates. Of course kooky situations would arise, which resulted in the three heroes suiting up and battling crime together. I loved the dynamic and the fact that Spidey trusted these two heroes, and no one else, with his secret identity.
So while a new TV series is not happening, the classic team from the Saturday morning cartoon is coming together once again in Marvel Comics’ Iceman #3 in November. There’s going to be an Iceman 5-part miniseries, so it’s unclear whether the team’s reunion will last more than just a singular issue. Either way, both the show and the heroic friends are near and dear to the hearts of many and the nostalgia factor will appeal to a large number of comic book readers, myself included!
With Sina Grace penning the story and Nathan Stockman as the artist, Iceman #3 comes out on November 7th.
