A couple years ago, the powers that be over at Supernatural and the CW announced they were making the Supernatural spin-off Wayward Sisters. With the intent to feature many fan-favorite female characters from the show, the project was sadly cancelled and did not come to fruition. That said it certainly wouldn’t be the last audiences would see of Sheriff Jody Mills and her adopted/surrogate daughters Alex and Claire.

Turns out, Supernatural showrunner Andrew Dabb has plans for the female hunters. In talking to Entertainment Weekly Dabb said the Wayward women would be appearing in Supernatural’s fourteenth season. This is refreshing news for some, since plenty of questions still remain after the backdoor pilot that took place in Season Thirteen.

For whatever reason, sufficient traction can’t be made for Supernatural spin-offs. First there was the attempt to make Bloodlines in 2014, but that didn’t take. Wayward Sisters received positive feedback from fans; many were intrigued by the concept. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be. Maybe some characters are simply meant to remain side characters. I don’t say that negatively, but not every character can be a central protagonist; even big-time superheroes like Superman, or in this case Sam and Dean Winchester, need a support system every now and then.

Supernatural returns for it’s 14th season on the CW on October 11th.
