Comic scribe Mark Millar has penned many a popular tale in his day. One of Millar’s more recent works is Jupiter’s Legacy. A personal favorite of mine, the series took a postmodern look at the Golden Age of comic book superheroes and gave it a unique (and violent) twist. It’s worth a read and then some. Not terribly long ago, Netflix realized the potential goldmine in adapting Millar’s works to the small screen and today it was announced that work on Mark Millar and Frank Quitley’s Image Comics book has officially started.
Executive producer and showrunner of Jupiter’s Rising, Steven S. DeKnight (who also worked on Marvel’s Daredevil), announced on Twitter that today was his first day with the Jupiter’s Legacy writers’ room. Additionally, there’s been an official synopsis provided which reads as follows, “A multi-generational American superhero epic, Jupiter’s Legacy follows the world’s first generation of superheroes who received their powers in the 1930’s. In present day they are the revered elder guard, but their superpowered children struggle to live up to the legendary feats of their parents. Steven S. DeKnight (Marvel’s Daredevil, Spartacus, Buffy the Vampire Slayer), who recently signed an overall deal with Netflix, will serve as showrunner and executive producer, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Dan McDermott also serving as executive producers for the series. DeKnight will also direct the first episode.”
An official release date for the series hasn’t been announced yet (at least I don’t think so) but once it is, it’ll make for news.
