Finally! It feels like we’ve been talking about Venom for years now, though it’s only been a few weeks. Regardless, the 3rd and final (?) trailer, the one mentioned yesterday in coming out today, has arrived. As opposed to its two predecessors, the full trailer is just that: full.

Fans have waited anxiously for the big reveal i.e. seeing Venom in all his alien glory. Did Venom’s new look live up to the hype and speculation? Yes and no. It really depends on whom you ask. Some people seem blown away by the Venom trailer while others have made it abundantly clear they think it looks like hot garbage. What you think is totally up to you, but I’m rather optimistic…for the most part. Sure, there are instances that ring hollow, but all things considered, it’s clear Sony is doing their utmost to make a standalone Venom movie that doesn’t require Spider-Man.

And so that brings us to Spider-Man. By all appearances, Spidey won’t be showing up. As for the iconic Spider-Man insignia on Venom’s chest, which is seen in the comics, it’s nonexistent. Rather, you have thick, white veins that you can tell are trying to act as a substitute.

Another interesting aspect of the trailer is that it still don’t provide a clear idea about what the movie is about. We know Venom is based off the Venom: Lethal Protector comic series from 1993; the storyline included tons of symbiotes. So too does the Venom movie.

Apparently, the symbiote Riot is going to be Venom’s primary adversary. First appearing in Venom Lethal Protector #4, it’s unlikely Riot is going to make it past the end credits, especially since there are far more iconic symbiote baddies (Carnage) that fans want to see.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer and starring Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams, Venom arrives in theaters on October 5th.
