There’s been plenty of speculation and anticipation over the new Aquaman trailer. While the hero made his cinematic debut back in Justice League, everyone knew the ocean-faring hero would be getting a movie of his own. Along the way, Aquaman continued to suffer ridicule, but the latest trailer for director James Wan’s vision for the Atlantean superhero took people by surprise.
Sure, Shazam! stole the show today, what with how the lightness and joy it demonstrated was so far removed from anything previously seen in the DCEU, but Aquaman was met with an equally enormous applause.
Ambitious in scope, attendees were treated to not just one, but two different trailers. The second trailer, which is not the one seen here, saw a more prolonged battle between Aquaman and Black Manta, along with scenes featuring Aquaman and Mera hunting for Atlantean artifacts in the dessert.
It’s clear there’s going to be a lot in Aquaman, as we have multiple villains, including Black Manta, Ocean Master, and the Trench to name a few, all trying to take down Arthur Curry.
Jason Momoa as Aquaman continues to be met with mixed reaction, as purists aren’t especially pleased with the “ surfer bro” mentality this iteration of the character is sporting. Even so, it really looks like the cast and crew are giving it their all and Aquaman could very well change the landscape of the DCEU.
Aquaman arrives in theaters on December 21st.
