The first trailer for the Titans TV show over on the DC Universe streaming app was released today and I think it’s safe to say that it’s nothing like what people were expecting. Right off the top, this iteration of the Teen Titans is not at all for kids. With plenty of swearing, including the now-memorable “F**k, Batman” line delivered by Robin/Dick Grayson, as played by Brendon Thwaites, and loads of blood and violence, DC is certainly taking a gamble.
The trailer has been met with mixed results across the Internet, but personally, I’m satisfied enough with what I’ve seen to watch all of the series. Interestingly enough, the show seems to be taking many elements from the first arc of George Perez and Marv Wolfman’s The New Teen Titans, wherein Raven sought out a bunch of young colleagues to help her defeat her demonic father, Trigon. Titans features the heroes Robin, Starfire, Beast Boy, Raven, and Hawk and Dove; it’s uncertain when/if fan-favorites like Donna Troy (or even Cyborg) will join the party.
Similar to Netflix, DC Universe will drop all 10 episodes of Titans at once, yet no one is quite sure when the show will actually be released.
