I think it’s safe to say that the villain for Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman film has been chosen: that of General Zod. Unless something drastic changes, which I doubt will be the case, the next movie we see that features the Man of Steel will be showcasing the Kryptonian General Zod as the baddie. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against Zod and think that’s he a fantastic character and fan opponent that’s Superman’s equal, always pushing him to his limits, but I’m thinking the same thing everyone else it: why not pick another Superman foe? In Richard Donner’s 1978 Superman II, we already had Zod be the bad guy and as it is, Supes’ has got a pretty epic rouges gallery; there’s no reason as to why they can’t be put on screen.
At this point the only thing we can do is grin and bare the news. Sadly we’re not going to be seeing Brainiac, Doomsday, Parasite, or even Darkseid as the villain; any of those guys would make for an interesting character. All we have left now is to hope that Snyder will pull some creative magic from out of his bag of tricks and wow us with a Zod unlike any other.
