Very recently, about less than an hour ago, it was publically released that Marc Webb was going to be directing the upcoming Spidey films, you know, because Sony decided they hated Sam Raimi and Toby Maguire. I may sound bitter, and don’t get wrong, I think Webb is a lovely director, famous now for his high grossing indie flick (500) Days of Summer, but I really wanted Raimi to continue the series.

Anyway, the studio apparently wants to focus on Peter Parker’s high school Spider-Man years, which is not a bad thing, seeing as some of my favorite Spidey stories come from that era of storytelling. If you want, you can check out the press release here in order to read more about the upcoming films. It doesn’t give a name for the new movie(s), but the next Spider-Man  should be out sometime in summer of 2012, for anyone who feels like waiting that long.

In the meantime, we’ll hold our breaths in eager anticipation, waiting to find out who will be filling the tights of everyone’s favorite wall-crawler.
